Icon - Resin Infiltration Treatment

Dr. Michael Klausner

Many of our patients suffer from unsightly white spots on their teeth. These little imperfections can occur for numerous reasons such as demineralization, trauma, fluorosis, poor oral hygiene, or discoloration that occurs after orthodontic treatment. In the past patients with these white spot lesions (WSLs) had two primary options, leaving them the way that they are, or more invasive procedures that involved shots, drilling, and porcelain or composite restoration. At Valley Arts Dental in West Orange, we aim to provide minimally invasive dentistry while exceeding our patients cosmetic desires, which is why Dr. Klausner is proud to now offer Icon as an innovative and painless way to erase these lesions.

How does Icon work?

White spot lesions occur due to an imbalance of mineralization and remineralization in teeth. In basic terms, some areas of the outer enamel contain higher concentration of minerals than others, leading uneven coloration. Dr. Klausner will abrade the area to expose tubules of the tooth, then treat the tooth with an etching primer material multiple time. These steps will ensure that special resin which is applied next will properly infiltrate the tooth. The special resin is then applied and forms a bond with the tooth structure leaving a uniform tooth structure which just has to be briefly polished moments later.
